Law (JD)
Howard's Law school offers the Juris Doctor and Master of Laws program. The Juris Doctorate program provides aspiring lawyers with an in-depth understanding of the law as well as real-world skills and training to grow their career and make an impact in a broad spectrum of fields. The curriculum provides the foundation in history, doctrine, process and analysis that students need to fully appreciate more specialized courses offered later in law school. It also includes a wide range of courses and approaches. Some of our classes are purely theoretical and doctrinal. Some focus on particular industries, such as health, pharmaceuticals, and entertainment and sports law. We also offer many opportunities for experiential learning and other courses designed to enable students to be sophisticated entrants into the worlds of business, government and law practice.
The Master of Laws program creates an opportunity for “millennial” lawyers to “hit the reset button” on their career trajectory. It is designed to attract international and domestic students. In addition to the traditional courses offered in most LL.M. programs, Howard Law’s program will also offer—to both domestic and international students—courses in human rights, civil rights, and social justice.
Howard is a national law school that embraces diversity and inclusiveness. Howard Law holds the distinction of graduating more African American attorneys than any other law school in the nation. And while we embrace and are poised to remain the flagship in producing attorneys of color, we seek to share the educational experience and richness that this institution offers with ethnically and culturally diverse individuals. Our approximately 450 students are comprised of people from all walks of life, varied socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientation, and gender identity. We have students from almost every US state and many foreign nations. We have third-generation law students and those that will be the first in their family to hold a jurist doctorate. We hope to learn from the experiences of each and every member of the Howard family so our graduates can better foster positive change in society.
